Create your first book
A standalone book
- In the Library, click New book (top right).
- Type the title. Below it, choose the pen name if you have more than one, and the page setup if you have made more than one—otherwise neither is asked.
- Click Add.
The book opens in the editor, empty, with two choices: Add the first chapter, or bring in a manuscript you already have. If the book exists in Word, Markdown or plain text, importing is faster than starting over—see Import a manuscript.
A book in a series
A book joins a series from the series' own row in the Library, not from the top button. Find the series, click Add book on its row, and give the title and its number in the series (3, or 2.5 for a novella between books; leave the number blank for a prequel or anything unnumbered). A book in a series takes the series' pen name.
No series yet? New series (beside New book) makes one: a name, the pen name it is published under, and optionally a universe it shares with other series.
What a new book comes with
- A page setup (trim size, margins, fonts), inherited from the series or from your default. Change it later from the editor under Book → Page setup.
- Chapter header settings, inherited from the series if it has them.
- Nothing else: no chapters, no front matter. Those come as you add them.
Open it again
The Library lists every book under its series or, for standalones, on its own. Click the title to open it; the editor remembers which scene you were in.
