Connect Claude to Write

What connecting doesmeans

Write hascan awork connector—an MCP server at https://write.authortools.net/mcp—that letsalongside an AI assistant. Once connected, the assistant workcan do in your books the waykinds of things you do: do—read scenes,a writechapter, anddraft revise,or revise a scene, keep notes, look thingssomething up in the codex, build a PDF.PDF—when Theyou AIask it to. It signs in as you, so it sees exactlyonly the books you can see, and can donothing in them whatchanges unless you canask do.for Nothingit.

is

Connecting sharedtakes witha anyonecouple else,of minutes, and nothing happens in your books that you didonly notdo askit theonce AIper for.app.

  1. Open

In Claude, open Settings, →then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector.

  2. Name

Give it a name you'll recognize—Author Tools Write is a good one—and paste this address into the address:URL field:

    https://write.authortools.net/mcp.

  3. Add

Save it, then click Connect. An Author Tools sign-in page opens;opens signin a new window. Sign in with your Author Tools account (the same one you use at authortools.net) and click to allow Writeaccess.

    to be read and written.
  4. Back in Claude, the connector shows as connected. In aany conversation, turn it on fromopen the tools menumenu, switch it on, and asktry forasking something—list myWhat books do I have in Write?

    is a good first request.

That's it. Claude Codewill remember the connection from here on.

About the permission screen

When you allow access, Write is granted both reading and otherwriting MCPin clientsone step; there isn't a read-only option at the moment. If you'd rather an AI only looked and never changed anything, the simplest way is to say so in your conversation—and know that whatever it does is saved in your book's history, where you can see it and undo it.

Other assistants

Any clientassistant that speakssupports MCPconnecting overto HTTPremote withtools OAuth(the sign-instandard is called MCP) works the same way: add https://write.authortools.net/mcp as a remote server;server, onand the first time you use it, it sendswill send you to the Author Tools sign-in, and from then on it is connected.in.

If sign-insomething failsdoesn't work

  • The sign-in usespage wants a password you don't recognize. It's asking for your Author Tools account—theaccount, one you use at authortools.net—not ayour Claude or ChatGPT account.
  • AThe connector addedsits withthere saying "not connected." Usually the address mistypedwas sits there "not connected" without saying why.mistyped. Remove it and add it againagain, withcopying the address exactlyfrom asthis above.page.
  • SigningYou signed out of Author Tools in your browser doesand not disconnectexpected the AI;AI to stop. It won't—the connectorconnection keepshas its own sign-in. To takestop access away,it, see Disconnect an AI.

MoreUsing more than one AIassistant

Each assistant you useone connects on its ownseparately and signs in as you. They do notdon't see each other, and each one's work shows up in the book's history under your name—thename, connectorsince each is you, acting throughon ayour tool.behalf. You can see every connection you've made, and end any of them, on your account page under Connected apps.
