Connect Claude to Write
What connecting does
Write has a connector—an MCP server at https://write.authortools.net/mcp—that lets an AI assistant work in your books the way you do: read scenes, write and revise, keep notes, look things up in the codex, build a PDF. The AI signs in as you, sees exactly the books you can see, and can do in them what you can do. Nothing is shared with anyone else, and nothing happens in your books that you did not ask the AI for.
Claude on the web or in the desktop app
- Open Settings → Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
- Name it Author Tools Write and paste the address:
https://write.authortools.net/mcp. - Add it, then click Connect. An Author Tools sign-in page opens; sign in with your Author Tools account and allow Write to be read and written.
- Back in Claude, the connector shows as connected. In a conversation, turn it on from the tools menu and ask for something—list my books is a good first request.
Claude Code and other MCP clients
Any client that speaks MCP over HTTP with OAuth sign-in works the same way: add https://write.authortools.net/mcp as a remote server; on first use it sends you to the Author Tools sign-in, and from then on it is connected.
If sign-in fails
- The sign-in uses your Author Tools account—the one you use at authortools.net—not a Claude account.
- A connector added with the address mistyped sits there "not connected" without saying why. Remove it and add it again with the address exactly as above.
- Signing out of Author Tools in your browser does not disconnect the AI; the connector keeps its own sign-in. To take access away, see Disconnect an AI.
More than one AI
Each assistant you use connects on its own and signs in as you. They do not see each other, and each one's work shows in the book's history under your name—the connector is you, acting through a tool.
