Disconnect an AI
Take the access away
An AI has access to Write only through the connector it signed in with, so removing the connector is how you end it.
Claude on the web or in the desktop app: Settings → Connectors, find Author Tools Write, and remove it. The AI can no longer reach your books, in any conversation, from that moment.
Other clients: remove the server from the client's MCP configuration, or sign out of it there.
If the same AI is connected from two places—say Claude's web app and Claude Code—each connection is its own; remove both.
What stays
Everything the AI wrote stays, as it should: it was your work, done at your asking, and it is in the book's history like any other save. Disconnecting changes nothing already in a book.
Pause instead of disconnect
To keep the connector but stop it acting for a while, turn it off in the conversation's tools menu. It stays signed in and can be turned on again without the sign-in step.
Connect again
Add the connector again as in Connect Claude to Write and sign in. There is nothing to restore; it picks up where you are.
